Green-Hydrogen Startup Hydgen Raises US$5 Million to Accelerate Clean Energy Innovation

StartUp News Desk

In a major fillip to the green energy industry, Hydgen, a rapidly growing green-hydrogen company, raised US$5 million in its recent funding round, reflecting increasing investor interest in hydrogen-based clean energy solutions. Blue Earth Ventures led the funding round, with contributions from existing investors and strategic energy industry partners. The funds will be utilized to ramp up production, build technology infrastructure, and grow market reach in Asia and the Middle East.

Hydgen, established in 2022, seeks to improve green hydrogen production efficiency and affordability, leading the clean energy revolution worldwide. The company employs an in-house electrolysis process that cuts energy usage and lowers carbon emissions in comparison to conventional hydrogen production. This innovation has attracted climate-sensitive investors and policymakers looking for viable solutions to achieve net-zero emissions.

“Hydrogen is the future of sustainable fuel, and green hydrogen represents the cleanest path forward. Our mission is to make it affordable and accessible for industries worldwide,” said Aarav Mehta, CEO and co-founder of Hydgen.

Revolutionizing Clean Energy Through Technology

The key to Hydgen’s technology is its HydroCatalyst system, a modular hydrogen generator which uses renewable energy sources such as solar and wind to generate hydrogen without depending on fossil fuels. The modularity in the system provides the ability to install it in remote areas, industry centers, and transport terminals, providing a decentralized means of hydrogen production.

This fits with the world move towards hydrogen-based solutions, particularly in industries like steel production, shipping, and heavy transport — sectors that have proven hard to decarbonize. Hydgen’s platform is meant to cut the cost of hydrogen production by as much as 40%, and it is a feasible substitute for hydrogen that comes from natural gas.

Strategic Growth and Partnerships

The fresh funds raised will be used mainly to scale up Hydgen’s pilot plants and raise its current 5 tons/day production capacity to 25 tons/day by mid-2026. The firm is also establishing a research and development facility in Bengaluru to work on its homegrown electrolyzer technology and develop next-generation hydrogen storage technologies.

Hydgen is engaged in active talks with several automobile and logistics organizations to commission hydrogen-powered fleets and fueling stations. In addition, it has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Middle Eastern energy company for the co-development of a hydrogen export corridor that would have the capacity to supply clean fuel to Europe and Africa.

Investor Confidence Reflects Global Momentum

Investors view Hydgen’s strategy as a bright move in addressing climate issues through innovation. Anita Sharma, Blue Earth Ventures Partner, said, “Hydgen’s method of scaling green hydrogen production is a key change in energy sustainability thinking. We believe their tech is poised to catalyze global adoption.”

Hydgen’s investment is part of a rush of venture capital interest in climate technology. Clean hydrogen startups saw global investment hit US$4.2 billion in 2024, according to recent figures from PitchBook, highlighting the sector’s breakneck growth curve. Governments everywhere — including those in India, Japan, and Germany — are implementing policy inducements and subsidies to spur hydrogen infrastructure development.

Paving the Way for a Sustainable Future

India, through its visionary National Green Hydrogen Mission, plans to make 5 million metric tons of green hydrogen available per year by 2030. Companies such as Hydgen are important to meet this goal by commercializing cost-effective, scalable technology.

Hydgen’s management intends to concentrate on minimizing production expenses and enhancing storage and transportation efficiency, two of the largest obstacles to mass adoption of hydrogen. By 2027, the company aims to become a major supplier for India’s and global industrial and transportation industries.

As the world’s economies shift towards cleaner options, Hydgen’s latest funding achievement signals not only the increasing demand for environmental-friendly investments but also the promise of green hydrogen as the future of renewable energy. With robust support, advanced technology, and clear plans for growth, Hydgen is well on its way to redefining the future of clean fuel and accelerating the world towards a carbon-free future.
