ExtraMile Play Raises $500K to Expand Its Gamified Employee Engagement Platform

StartUp News Desk

Mumbai — ExtraMile Play, a B2B SaaS startup that uses gamified experiences to help companies activate their teams, has secured close to US $500,000 as part of a seed funding round. The investment was led by GSF, with participation from Mount Judi Ventures, GrowthSense, and Growth91.

Founded in 2011 by Pooja Bajaj, ExtraMile Play evolved from a traditional event-management business into a digital engagement platform that uses behavioral science and gamification to unite teams across remote, hybrid, and in-office environments.

Tackling Engagement Through Play

ExtraMile Play’s core mission is to “make workplaces more human and connected.”

On the platform, there are over 180 virtual and digital activities that range from trivia, daily mission games, team challenges, and festival-themed experiences.

These activities are designed to be easily deployable: managers can launch them without depending on HR, with single sign-on integration such as Azure, PeopleStrong.

On its website, ExtraMile also emphasizes that such engagement creates a real connection and builds a culture that is not only fun but measurable.

Real-time dashboards reveal participation and task completion trends, along with overall engagement, which show organizations what works.

In fact, ExtraMile Play has gained strong traction in recent years. As reported, more than 100 enterprises from banking, pharma, consulting, retail, and IT are clients today.

The platform reportedly has engaged more than 150,000 employees across the world.

Some of its marquee clients are Motilal Oswal, EY, Cipla, Aditya Birla Capital, Edelweiss, and Nexus Malls.

Since its inception, ExtraMile Play has grown beyond core games into learning-based games, DEI experiences, and well-being-focused engagement formats.

How ExtraMile Plans to Use the Funds

According to the company’s announcement, the $500K will be deployed across several strategic areas:

Product Innovation: The funds will fuel technology upgrades, including stronger AI capabilities, in order to make engagement more dynamic and data-driven.

Verticals: ExtraMile plans to expand into new enterprise segments in India and scale its model across the world.

R&D & Analytics: A portion will go into improving the insight engines to further help HR teams measure and optimize the return from the engagement programs.

Why This Round Matters

This funding round is significant for several reasons:

It underlines investor confidence in the engagement-first SaaS businesses that use behavioral science and gamification.

As hybrid and remote ways of working become more embedded, ExtraMile Play is increasingly relevant to helping organizations achieve culture, retention, and connection.

The company’s business model is scalable: its plug-and-play design, deep content library, and data-driven dashboard make it valuable for both small teams and large enterprises.

Challenges Ahead

ExtraMile Play faces a few risks to scale effectively: Proving ROI: For large enterprises, running engagement activities is simply not enough; proving that these programs drive performance, retention, or wellness is key. Content Freshness: Maintaining a library of 180+ activities is demanding. ExtraMile needs to continuously refresh content in response to user feedback and changing workplace trends. Competitors: The space is going to be heavily populated, and large, legacy HR tech vendors are also building engagement modules. Global Scaling: International expansion will require more than just capital; high-quality go-to-market execution, local partnerships, and cultural adaptability of engagement formats are a must. The Bigger Picture: Future of Work ExtraMile Play’s latest raise is a strong signal for the future of work.

As companies grapple with decentralised teams, engagement is no longer a “nice to have”-it’s a business imperative. By combining gamification, behavioral science, and technology, ExtraMile Play is in a unique place to help companies build not just more engaged teams but more connected and purpose-driven teams. This seed funding gives the company further runway to deepen its product, sharpen its analytics, and reach more companies- probably making it one of the go-to platforms in the global employee engagement space.
