Employee health benefits platform Plum Insurance has raised Rs 193 crore (around $20.5 million) in a Series B funding round led by Peak XV Partners.
The round also saw increased participation from existing investor Tanglin Venture Partners, along with new backing from GMO VenturePartners.
This marks Plum’s first major funding round in nearly five years, following its $15.6 million Series A led by Tiger Global in 2021.
What Plum Insurance Does
Simplifying Employee Health Benefits
Founded in 2019, Plum Insurance focuses on providing health insurance and wellness benefits to companies and their employees.
Its core mission is to make health insurance simpler, faster, and more reliable—especially when it comes to claims, which are often a major pain point for users.
Why This Funding Matters
A Fresh Push After Five Years
After a long gap since its last funding round, this investment signals renewed confidence in Plum’s business model and growth potential.
It also reflects the increasing importance of employee healthcare solutions in today’s workplace.
How Plum Plans to Use the Funds
Investing in Talent and Technology
Plum plans to strengthen its team and improve its technology stack. A strong focus will be on building better digital infrastructure to enhance user experience.
AI-Led Claims Operations
One of the key areas of investment will be artificial intelligence. The company aims to use AI to make claims processing faster, more accurate, and less stressful for users.
Deeper Integrations with HR Systems
Plum is also working on integrating its platform more closely with HR and payroll systems. This will make it easier for companies to manage employee benefits seamlessly.
Expanding Beyond Insurance
Moving Into Holistic Healthcare
Plum is not stopping at insurance. The company plans to expand into:
- Preventive care
- Primary healthcare services
- Mental wellness support
- Telehealth solutions
This shift shows a broader vision of becoming a complete employee health platform rather than just an insurance provider.
Fixing the Biggest Problem: Claims Experience
Faster Hospital Discharges
One of Plum’s biggest achievements has been improving the claims process.
The company reports that it has reduced the median cashless hospital discharge time from 180 minutes in 2019 to just 47 minutes today.
Quicker Reimbursements
Reimbursement timelines have also improved significantly—from 25 days earlier to just 1.5 days now.
These improvements directly address one of the biggest frustrations users face with traditional insurance providers.
Scale of Operations
Plum has processed over 500,000 claims so far, showing strong adoption and operational scale.
Why Employee Health Platforms Are Growing
Rising Focus on Employee Wellbeing
Companies are increasingly prioritizing employee health and wellness. Better benefits are now seen as essential for attracting and retaining talent.
Shift Toward Digital Healthcare
Digital platforms like Plum are making it easier to manage healthcare benefits, offering transparency and speed that traditional systems often lack.
Challenges Ahead
Competing in a Crowded Market
The health insurance and employee benefits space is becoming more competitive, with both startups and established insurers stepping up their offerings.
Maintaining Service Quality at Scale
As Plum grows, maintaining fast claims processing and high customer satisfaction will be critical.
Final Thoughts
Plum Insurance’s $20.5 million funding round highlights a major shift in how companies approach employee healthcare. With a strong focus on technology, AI, and user experience, Plum is trying to solve long-standing issues in the insurance industry.
If it continues to deliver on faster claims and expands successfully into broader healthcare services, Plum could play a key role in shaping the future of employee benefits in India.
