PhysicsWallah IPO Could Make Founders Billionaires—India’s Edtech Revolution Hits the Stock Market

StartUp News Desk

India’s edtech superstar PhysicsWallah is ready to make a massive splash with its upcoming IPO, which could value the company at a jaw-dropping $3.2 billion. Set to open for public subscription on November 11 and close on November 13, this IPO has already created a buzz among investors eager to bet on India’s education revolution.

The Rs 3,480 crore offering includes a fresh issue of Rs 3,100 crore to fuel expansion and an offer-for-sale of Rs 380 crore from existing shareholders. In a strong vote of confidence, co-founders Alakh Pandey and Prateek Maheshwari have reduced the shares they’re selling, signaling their commitment to PhysicsWallah’s long-term growth. The fresh capital will go toward expanding offline learning centers, strengthening technology infrastructure, and supporting acquisitions in the test prep and skilling segments.

Since its founding in 2020, PhysicsWallah has grown into one of India’s rare profitable edtech companies. The firm operates over 500 offline centers under its PW Vidyapeeth and Pathshala brands and serves over one crore monthly active users on its digital platforms. The company posted Rs 2,887 crore in revenue in FY25, with a loss of Rs 243 crore, while Q1 FY26 saw revenue of Rs 847 crore and losses of Rs 127 crore. These numbers highlight a company scaling rapidly while investing heavily in growth.

This IPO is being closely watched as a test of investor appetite for edtech after a period of slowdown in funding and valuations. If successful, it could pave the way for other edtech firms like Unacademy and Vedantu to explore public listings, reinvigorating the sector. PhysicsWallah’s hybrid model, combining digital and offline learning, allows it to tap into smaller towns and cities, giving it a unique advantage over purely online competitors.

Investors are also paying attention to the founders’ reduced stake sale. This signals a long-term vision and commitment to building a sustainable business, rather than chasing short-term gains. By balancing scale, profitability, and investor confidence, PhysicsWallah is positioning itself as a trailblazer in India’s edtech ecosystem.

With the IPO just days away, all eyes are on how the market will value one of India’s most watched edtech success stories. A strong debut could mark the beginning of a new era for education startups in India, proving that innovative models can attract both users and investors alike.
